Town miser Gideon Hackles spends Halloween hiding IOU’s in his house, which he then rigs as haunted and invites local kids to search for the IOU’s so he can scare them. This year he gets his comeuppance.
What’s so special about this episode is that it’s entertaining and is basking in the Halloween spirit. It has a few creepy moments to it such as where the old town misers Halloween decorations start moving on their own. The episode also has a message to it. In a super creepy but subtle way it deals themes of the punishment of greed and cruelty. Think of it like a very entertaining Halloween version of “A Christmas Carol” except this mean old rich man doesn’t learn his lesson and most certainly doesn’t have a happy ending for the old rotten man. So if you’re wanting some Darkside episodes filled with some Halloween spirit to it then you need to watch this episode plus the episode Halloween Candy but that review is for another day sooooon.
