Now if you’ve ever been curious to watch a Halloween horror comedy that also happens to have a big middle finger message towards a particular clique of people then look no further then the 2007 festival favorite “Murder Party.”
On Halloween night in Brooklyn an average Joe loser named Chris finds an invitation to a costume party. Arriving at the “party” Chris discovers he’s fallen prey to a lethal trap set by a group of deranged young artists. As the night wears on rivalries within the group flare up. A body count accrues and Chris must take advantage of the ensuing chaos if he’s to survive the night.
If you’ve ever met or been in the midst of all those douchey art school types or annoying hipsters then you’ll get a kick out of “Murder Party” because it makes fun of those types perfectly. Though the group of artists plan on killing Chris in an artistic way all for some grant money from a sketchy rich person, all they end up doing is talking about their art while just doing drugs and partying like typical artist douches. The film succeeds in the beginning by establishing a good Halloween in the city atmosphere and giving our main character Chris a quirky but lovably dorky, shy and comedic flare to him. Though the deranged artist group is douchey the Comedy between them is laughable…until it gets to the ending which turns into a blood bath while giving a giant middle finger to city art scenes while splattering blood all over it.
So if you want some laughs with your Halloween horror film this fright season and would love for a movie to make fun of those douchey artists types, then seek out “Murder Party” and give it a watch
