Not only is William Lustig’s 90‘s era slasher unknown to most people it is also shit on by a lot of horror reviewers. However I highly disagree with those reviewers. The film is about a zombie gulf war vet dressed in an Uncle Sam costume who kills people he thinks are unpatriotic. The film is quite silly, incoherent and has a strong b-movie feel. However it is also a fun little slasher that has some depth to it. It deals with the extremism and fascism that can sometimes be found in patriotism. The ending has a dream-like quality that is very reminiscent of Lucio Fulci’s “City Of The Living Dead.” Overall a silly 80’s style horror film with some deep themes behind it that just happened to be made in the mid 90’s. Check it out and if you remember seeing it long ago and disliking it, give it another chance. Especially next 4th of July.
